Who is Super 8? What is Super 8? Does Super 8 come with its own guerilla marketing campaign? American cinemagoers have had the answer to at least one of those questions after getting a glimpse of a new, hush-hush collaboration between JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg

Long-running speculation had suggested that Super 8 was to be a sequel, or prequel, to Abrams's Cloverfield. This has been denied by a spokeswoman for Paramount, who went on to claim it was inspired by films Abrams "loved and admired as a teenager". Which could include Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, or perhaps a paranoid chase thriller like George Cosmatos's The Cassandra Crossing. Or maybe just his dad's home videos.

The new trailer continues Abrams's form in the teasing department. Cloverfield gained huge word-of-mouth anticipation thanks to a series of trailers that seemed to show handycam footage of a decimated Manhattan. Abrams, who was responsible for the recent Star Trek reboot and Mission: Impossible III, was also, of course, the creator of Lost, perhaps the biggest tease in TV history.

Super 8 is set for release this summer......
